Creating Your First Project
A well-structured project is the foundation of on-time delivery. This guide walks you through creating and configuring a project in Chronodesk so everyone knows what to do, when to do it, and who is responsible.
Before You Begin
Gather the following before opening Chronodesk:
- The project’s goal in one sentence
- A rough list of deliverables
- Names of the people who will work on it
- A realistic target completion date
Having these ready means your project setup takes under five minutes.
Step 1: Open the Projects Area
In the left sidebar, click Projects, then click the + New Project button in the top-right corner.
Step 2: Fill In Project Details
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Name | Short, specific name (e.g. “Website Redesign Q3”) |
| Description | One or two sentences describing the outcome |
| Start date | Today or the agreed kick-off date |
| End date | Your target completion date |
| Team members | Add everyone who needs access |
Step 3: Add Milestones
Milestones mark major checkpoints — think “design approved” or “beta launched”. Click Add Milestone, enter a name, and set a date. Milestones appear on the Gantt chart as diamonds, giving the whole team visibility into progress at a glance.
Step 4: Create Your First Tasks
Break the project into tasks. For each one, set:
- Title — an action phrase (e.g. “Write homepage copy”)
- Assignee — one person who owns it
- Due date
- Dependencies — tasks that must finish first
Tips for Healthy Projects
- Keep tasks small enough to complete in a day or two
- Review progress weekly — update status, move stuck tasks, re-assign if needed
- Use Chronodesk’s comments on tasks to keep conversations in context
